SAT, ACT: Florida students lag behind national averages
Florida students in the last year took the SAT in greater numbers than ever before, pushed by free test sessions at their schools, according to results for the class of 2018 released today. But on both the SAT and the ACT — its rival college admission exam that released results last week — state students continued to lag behind the nation, particularly on the math section of the exams. According to the latest College Scorecard released by the U.S. Department of Education, average earnings ten years after admission is nearly four times higher at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the school with the highest earnings, than the school with the lowest earnings, Ultimate Medical Academy in Clearwater. DeSantis says he has a plan to boost classroom spending while emphasizing career and technical training. Florida school districts impacted by Hurricane Michael announce slated openings
Schools in areas hard hit by Hurricane Michael are all expected to reopen by mid-November. Liberty, Jackson and Calhoun counties plan to welcome students on Monday. Bay County, home to ravaged Panama City and Panama City Beach, plans to reopen schools no later than the week of Nov. 12.
